Helping Misfits See the Light

“The doors we open and close each day decide the lives we live.”

-Flora Whittemore

Definition: Misfits
What the employee contributes does not fit with what the organization needs.

Story: Brian was his company's first salesperson. He became their first sales manager, and as his job expanded, he did not realize what he didn't know. Eventually Brian stopped learning resulting in stalled growth for his company. His replacement got the company growing again. And a good job with a new company got Brian learning again. It was a win/win for everyone.

Nugget:
Before the misfit does too much damage, you must quickly decide to retrain, reassign, or replace.
